Coiled Trunk or 'Hankan' Style

A Bonsai with a very sinuous, coiled trunk, which seems to be a 'Chinese' style. This rather unnatural looking form has rather fallen out of favour. I've seen examples of hankan styled trees with all the branches coming out to the sides of the trees, creating a very 'flat' tree

A hankan styled tree is usually developed by planting a 'whippy' young trunk and tying it to canes, forming the shape.
